Death By Group Effort.

 Memorable Endings Part 11

Descent 2nd Edition kicks off its campaign by having a go at you with Goblins and a roving pack of Barghests the latter has a master or pack leader sporting enhanced abilities. The fearsome Barghest can reduce your health just by howling. Add to this that they attack quickly and can sustain a decent amount of damage they are quite formidable. They managed to break up our first-time adventure party and caused a lot of damage before they were subdued. All in the first encounter of the game.

I had at one time a cardboard dungeon scenario that saw a wolf pack hunting a group moving stealth fully through a snow filled forest. Any way that you played it the Wolves won. They are in their element being faster and possessing superior tracking and scenting skills. So, it was just a matter of damage control for the party being pursued. memorably one member was torn to pieces when separated from the group.

Can you make it anymore one sided?  yes, you can by employing cyberdogs. Apart from possessing all the above abilities these guys can communicate electronically over distance and make more informed attack pack decisions. In some cases, packing more weapons than just tooth and claw. These creatures worked well in a game of Heroscape.
